Evesham Festival of Words Friday 15th March

Holland House, Main Street, Cropthorne, Pershore. WR10 3NB.

12.30 pm for lunch at 1pm prompt.

The Festival in Evesham offers a very wide programme of events –

author talks; writing workshops; poetry events; plays; music; illustrated

talks. In 2019 Dr Michael Hall will speak on Francis Brett Young:

Worcestershire Poet and Novelist. This will be preceded by a two-

course lunch, giving those attending the chance to enjoy Holland

House, set in three acres of delightful gardens beside the River Avon.

Tickets £16 per person, booked direct from Holland House, either

Evensong at Worcester Cathedral Sunday 17th March

This will coincide with the Society’s exhibition in the Dean’s Chapel,

which will be in the cathedral from Tuesday 12 th – Sunday 31 st March.

Evensong will include the laying of a wreath at the FBY memorial.

Prior to this we will enjoy tea/coffee & cakes in the Cloister Café.

There will be ample opportunity to visit the exhibition. By popular

request, we have arranged to travel by coach.

1.45pm Pick up at Webb’s Garden Centre, Hagley*

3.00pm Tea in Cloister Café, Worcester Cathedral

4.00pm Evensong

5.15pm Depart Worcester.

12.30pm for 1pm

Enjoy a pre-dinner drink followed by a four-course meal. Choose from

three starters, four main courses and two desserts plus coffee and mints.

After dinner illustrated talk.

Cost: £23 per person


Outing Saturday 1st June

Elan Valley - to coincide with the Society’s Exhibition, which will be

different from those already held in Hales Owen, Bewdley or Worcester

Cathedral, or that to be held in Pershore Abbey. Discover how many

versions and in how many languages FBY’s House Under the Water

appeared. Take a guided coach tour around the site and the opportunity

to walk beneath Pen Y Garreg. Morning coffee at the delightful Lion

Hotel, Leintwardine and lunch at the Elan Valley Visitor’s Centre.

9.00am Pick up at Quinton Methodist Church

9.15am Pick up at Webb’s Garden Centre, Hagley*

10.45am Arrive Lion Hotel, Leintwardine for morning coffee/tea/biscuits

11.45am Depart Leintwardine

1.00pm Arrive Elan Valley Visitors’ Centre

Lunch: selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pies

and chutneys, fresh fruit platter, bara brith and Welsh

cakes, fruit juice/water.

Opportunity to view the exhibition

2.15pm Guided coach tour around the Elan Valley reservoirs and walk beneath Pen Y Garreg dam.

4.15pm Return to Elan Valley Visitor’s Centre

4.30pm Depart Elan Valley

6,45pm Arrive Hagley

7.00pm Arrive Quinton

Cost: £32 per person to include coach fare, morning coffee, lunch,

guided tour of Elan Valley site, driver’s gratuity
